I've done some googling on this product, and got the NDIS wrapper installed, downloaded the appropriate driver from this thread, installed said driver, and it appears to be basically in place. While I've used linux a fair amount, I still count myself a nub, especially when it comes to drivers & such. I've spent quite a lot of time trying to work it out, but to no avail. Unfortunately, I'm having a very similar problem. I keep that old Realtek for situations such as yours, I need a one time connection to download driver software/firmware.
There is a third choice but it's pretty slow(G speed) and ugly, Trendnet TEW-424UB (ver.2 or better) but plug it in and it works - every time since 9.04 in my experience. The second good choice IME is Netgear's WNA1100 using an Atheros AR9271 chipset. Use caution here, RTL8192 CU seems much more common but needs a tweaked proprietary RealTekdriver to work reliably. One is Trendnet's TEW-649UB using RealTek's RTL8192 SU chipset.

If you have a laptop, can you get a one-time ethernet cable connection to install wireless drivers? If not and wireless is the only option, I have a couple USB dongles that have been plug 'n' play for a couple years at least.
Lol they told me "leave Windows and switch to Linux, it's simple and easy."Ĭatch 22, isn't it? I use two options in addition to praseodym's good solutions. How am I supposed to do it if I don't have the drivers to connect to the internet?
